Red Umbrella
Red Umbrella

2011

I've always liked the look of umbrellas in paintings. This one was painted in a workshop I took from Colley Whisson of Australia while he was teaching at Tucson Art Academy in, you guessed it, Tucson!

Painting in the impressionist style is not as easy as it looks, although it seems everyone is giving it a go, including "moi".

Robert Genn said that he once juried a show somewhere and when he walked into the room, it looked as if all the paintings had been painted by the same artist in the "impressionist style". So maybe I should take my husband Bob's advice when he says, "You just stick to whatever it is you do there best, Vern!"

Trouble is, I haven't yet figured out what it is that I do there best!
