View of Cerro Pedernal
Oil on canvas - with local sand embedded
16 x 20 inches
2018

The mountains of New Mexico were among Georgia O'Keeffe's favourite subjects to paint. The flat-topped Cerro Pedernal, a unique mesa near the town of Abiquiu, fascinated her. She referred to it as her mountain and joked, "God told me if I painted that mountain enough, he'd give it to me."

I had the pleasure of painting this picture en plein air, with Pedernal in the background, at Ghost Ranch where Georgia lived and painted.
